Hand Embroidery Artisan - Different Types of Shawl Embroidery
Demonstration of different motifs
Objective: At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• practice embroidering different motifs
- flower
- badaam (Paisley)
- chinar.
Requirements
Materials
• Necessary embroider materials - as reqd.
PROCEDURE
TASK 1: practice embroidering flower
Step 1: Prepare the fabric (Fig 1) Step 3: Fill the petals (Fig 3)
• Mount the fabric tightly on the embroidery frame. Use satin stitch (flat Sozni stitch) for each petal.
• Trace a simple flower design using pencil or fabric • Bring the needle up at one edge of the petal.

• Repeat in closely placed, parallel stitches from base
to tip of petal.
• Keep the direction of stitches uniform.
• Continue this for all petals.

Step 2: Start the center (bud) of the flower (Fig 2)
• Use a small satin stitch or tanka stitch (Sozni style)
to fill the central round part.
• Stitch in one direction, keeping it tight and smooth.

Step 4: Outline the petals (Fig 4)
To enhance the design, use a backstitch or outline stitch:
• Use the same color or a slightly darker thread.
• Outline around each petal and the central bud to give
it definition.
• Optional: Use Kingri zigzag edging on the petal tips
for a decorative effect.
